Establishing a Company in the United States
Intracorporate transfer of personnel to serve as managers or executives and establishment of a new company in the U.S.
The L-1 visa is used for the transfer of a manager or executive from a foreign corporation to operate an affiliated, subsidiary, or related company or business office in the U.S. The transferee must have worked in a manager or executive position with the foreign corporation for at least one year within the three years prior to submitting the application.
When the L-1 visa is approved, it is for a one-year period to work with the new company, after which the applicant must seek an extension from the Immigration Service. After that time, and after obtaining the extension or renewal, the applicant can begin the process for permanent residence, if they qualify under the requirements established by law.
