Key Interview on CNN Chile: Fernando Socol Analyzes the Future of the Visa Waiver and Immigration Restrictions

In a special segment of CNN Chile Interviews, we had the opportunity to speak with Fernando Socol, an immigration attorney with nearly three decades of experience and director of the Socol Law firm.

The interview focused on two topics of high relevance to the Chilean and Latin American public: the future of the Visa Waiver Program and current immigration restrictions for legalization in the United States.

Fernando Socol delved into the difficulties and challenges that have marked the approval process and, in some cases, the rejection of Chile’s participation in the Visa Waiver Program. Attorney Fernando Socol explained that the fundamental requirements for a country to remain in the program include:

  • Low Overstay Rate: The country must demonstrate a low percentage of citizens who remain in the U.S. longer than permitted by their visa.
  • Security Cooperation: It is essential that the country actively collaborate with the United States in the exchange of detailed information about its citizens. This cooperation allows U.S. immigration authorities to conduct the necessary investigations to assess the risk of each traveler and prevent threats to national security.
